Abstract
The continuation of the "EXploration of electric Aircraft Concepts and Technologies 2" (EXACT2) project will allow an examination of Short-Medium-Range (SMR) concepts identified in the predecessor project EXACT on a higher level of detail. With focus on critical disciplines the uncertainties are reduced and the higher overall confidence level is projected on new concepts for Mid- and Long Range aircraft in EXACT 2. Both Liquid Hydrogen (LH 2 ) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel are considered as energy carriers. Following the identification of suitable reference aircraft, the Top Level Aircraft Requirements for the new concepts are derived. These concepts are calculated in an interdisciplinary design environment based around the Overall Aircraft Design (OAD) tool landscape at the DLR. For the LH 2 -powered aircraft, a configuration with fuselage mounted tanks in the unpressurized rear and front is considered. The cockpit is located on a second deck providing forward visibility over the front tank. Preliminary results regarding sensitivities and trade studies on OAD level parameters like design range and fuselage diameter are carried out for this and other configurations. Potential family members are considered in this conceptual design stage.
