Abstract

In addition to technological maturity, the degree of societal readiness is also important for the successful introduction of new mobility technologies on the market. The concept of societal readiness describes how mature a technology is for uptake and acceptance by society. Suitable methods for increasing societal readiness are diverse and vary depending on the phase of research and development. In early phases, the focus is on identifying a social problem and exploring possible solutions. In later development phases, the further development of technologies and transport services should include suitable participation formats. In the transport environment, the parallel consideration of societal readiness and technology readiness is particularly important for the ramp-up of electromobility and innovations in the field of automated driving. Interdisciplinary approaches are necessary in order to harmonise technological developments with societal needs and ensure the acceptance and sustainability of innovations.
