This report presents the results of task 2 of the study: Critical Review of Ka-band Instrument. The conceptual instrument derived in task 1 is considered in terms of the RF design and technology requirements highlighting any particular issues with respect to component availability, performance (e.g. noise figure, power levels, losses etc.) and calibration criticality. The criticality of technology which is available to meet the performance at Ka-band is investigated as well as the resulting impacts on the instrument design, in terms of RF power source, Receive signal recovery techniques (e.g. SCORE), Antenna technology and Baseline calibration techniques.
