Abstract

Active flow separation control currently matures from laboratory conditions achieved at University facilities at low speeds and Reynolds numbers to flow conditions. Over the past two decades at least, active flow control (AFC) has been investigated to suppress flow separation. In 2011, in the scope of the European Commission funded framework of Clean Sky – Smart Fixed Wing Aircraft, the efficiency of flow separation control by pulsed blowing was investigated regarding the influence of wing sweep. The model setup was modified to incorporate a mounting as a swept cantilever wing. The obtained data completes previous measurements to qualify the applied active flow separation control techniques in its aerodynamic efficiency bridging the gap from 2D airfoil measurements to real conditions at the aircraft.
