Abstract

TerraSAR-X is a German Earth-observation satellite. Its primary payload is an X-band radar sensor with a range of different modes of operation, allowing it to record images with different swath widths, resolutions and polarisations. After six years of successful operations a new mode, called wide ScanSAR with an extended swath width of more than 200 km will be offered August 2013 to the scientific and commercial community. The new mode is especially valuable for maritime applications, such as ship monitoring, costal surveillance, wind field measurements.
