Abstract

An accurate description of the mean ow, the rms values and spectral shapes of the separated boundary layer play an important role in predicting trailing edge far eld noise. A possible method for describ- ing the mean and rms quantities based on a modication of Coles' Law of the Wake and Prandtls mixing length theory is presented. The model is validated against related experiments from literature and new mea- surements conducted at DLR Braunschweig. Additionally, a comparison between the van Karman spectrum for isotropic turbulence and the mea- sured spectra inside the separated boundary layer is given. The results strongly suggest that the spectra as well as the mean and rms values of the separated ow can be modeled with the proposed approaches
