Abstract
DLR has developed an airborne observation system with an array of cameras on a glider aircraft which acts as a research and demonstration platform for a variety of security application. The project makes use of the know-how of the different branches of DLR, especially remote sensing technology, aviation, fuel cells and communication. The goal is the observation of large areas combined with a near-real time on-board data processing and direct transmission of the derived information to the ground facilities. Furthermore, due to cycling of the aircraft persistent monitoring of a site can be achieved.
