Abstract
Coupled boundary conditions are presented, replacing the detailed flow through a heat exchanger by a simplified model. The approach allows defining inlet and outlet areas on arbitrary geometries and studying the corresponding effects on the surrounding flow field. The boundary conditions are applied to the transonic flow around a 2D wing section for studying effects of inlet position, pressure drop and heat release. The boundary conditions are shown to be compatible with any type of RANS turbulence model, thus being useful in the pre-design, e.g. of air-intake positions. Finally, the newly developed coupled boundary conditions are applied to a generic aircraft configuration similar to an Airbus A320, having a heat exchanger inlet and outlet on the lower fuselage. The associated flow phenomena are analyzed, visualized and discussed.
