Abstract
An on-board taxi guidance system with displayed ground traffic and data link to air traffic control was validated in two main studies with 57 commercial airline pilots at DLR’s Institute of Flight Guidance simulation facilities. Following the validation guidelines by EUROCONTROL, results in terms of operational feasibility and operational improvements were gained. In a first step, eye gaze data were analysed to control the effect of increased head down times. In a second step (within the EU project EMMA2), hints for operational improvements were gathered in shape of questionnaires regarding workload and situation awareness.
