Abstract

This report describes the conceptual modeling, implementation and handling of the "Turbulence Model Assessment Database" using the software DataFinder and the WebDAV protocol. A detailed description how to handle the assessment database and the underlying DataFinder software is given. The focus of this report is on the organization of the data in the database including the use of metadata and on how to download and upload files and directories from and to the database. The goal of the "Turbulence Model Assessment Database" is to provide a place where all data needed to assess turbulence models for aerodynamic flows at DLR AS can be stored for a long-term period. The database contains high-quality validation test cases. The data cover the corresponding experimental data and all files occurring in the CFD process chain from geometry description and mesh generation to the numerical solution. The majority of numerical data are expected to come from the numerical flow solvers developed and used at DLR AS. Additionally, it is possible to include numerical reference data from other research institutes. Moreover, the available literature on the test cases is provided as well as all expert knowledge on the test cases including details of the situation in the wind tunnel during the measurement campaign and experiences made during previous numerical investigations. The database is designed to become a central repository for validation test cases at DLR AS. The test cases can be used for validation of turbulence models and their improvement, for the assessment of code releases and for demonstrating the successive improvement in the predictive capabilities of the DLR flow solvers.
