Abstract

The total climate impact of air traffic is strongly affected by Non-CO2 effects. In contrast to the impact of long lived greenhouse gases the knowledge on the radiative forcing of air traffic induced cloudiness (AIC) is still considered to be poor. In this talk we will give an overview on the current knowledge of contrails and contrail cirrus and their avoidance. We address possible actions and conclude with a timescale to answer the question posed in the title.
