Abstract

Reports are given on selected experiments about flow-induced-vibration phenomena. These experiments were performed in very different facilities including low-speed-, transonic- and high pressure windtunnels. The projects span from a Tacoma section in a small low-speed windtunnel via flutter tests with generic wings (2D and 3D), performed in a transonic windtunnel to bluff bodies investigated in a high pressure windtunnel. The last mentioned facility is especially designed for very high Reynolds number simulation. Firstly these tests serve as examples for the discussion of the fundamental aspects that are essential in applying piezo balances, which are predestinated for the investigation of unsteady phenomena like flow induced vibrations. Secondly different manifestations of limit cycle oscillations will be presented, observed in flow around wings and bluff bodies, respectively.
