Abstract
Advanced driver assistant systems can be designed to adapt to the driver’s needs e.g. by taking into account the traffic condition in the immediate vicinity of the ego car. This leads to the motivation of designing a technical system measuring the local traffic condition corresponding to the driver’s view of traffic density. In this paper a method based on automotive sensor technology is introduced for estimating the local traffic condition. For a precise evaluation a simulator study was developed implying an autonomous vehicle control. The data is analysed concerning the experimental setup and the relationship between the measure and subjective ratings.
