Abstract

Transition detection on high-lift devices of a 3D half model using the TSP technique was performed in the DNW-Cologne Cryogenic Wind Tunnel (KKK). A new method using heating foils to enhance temperature difference between laminar- and turbulent-boundary layers on a small and thin model surface were tested in order to be able to obtain the highest quality result images. Consequently, the TSP technique used with heating foils applied to a lower surface of slats showed that laminar-to-turbulent transition line on thin slats even at low temperatures and low Mach numbers could be reliably detected.
