Abstract
Multifunctional components and adptive control methods have come together in a promising new technology. One of the many possible applications is in the field of vibration control, where undesirable structural vibrations can lead to problems ranging from degradation of performance to unsafe operation. This paper describes the Multifunctional Interface (MFI) as a means of achieving active vibration isolation and discusses limits on achievable performance and strategies for its effective implementation.
