Abstract
VDDM is intended to bridge the gap between system-supported services and individual user requirements on IBM mainframes by means of the ISPF/PDF dialog manager. Being an "application" in terms of the ISPF dialog guide. VDDM provides a unified integrated and almost consistent scientific environment on the two operating systems VM/CMSand MVS/XA available to the author. At present, the product comprisesapproximately 60.000 lines of code shared among the various constituents of the entire tool. A major portion of the lecture is dedicated to the author's experience with VS FORTRAN, ISPF/PDF and GDDM on the two operating systems, bringing them together under one heading. Besides discussing the experience with the implementation ofone and the same ISPF application on two different operating systems, the product VDDM itself is introduced and its concept outlined in more detail.
