Abstract

The present report summarizes the DLR contribution to the FESTIP/I - Slice B system study (WP 4015b). The objective of the study was the aerodynamic design of a waverider configuration adapted to "Once-Around-Earth" requirements (concept FSS-15WR). This includes the definition of a surface geometry, an aerodynamic dataset for the whole flow regime an the estimation of heat loads for selected trajectory points. Based on the aerodynamic coefficients a first complete aerodynamic dataset and a first reference trajectory for a waverider based configurations was established. The report closes with some recommendations for a second design cycle and points out potential weak points of the designed waverider based shape FSS-15WR.
