Abstract

The implementation of a chimera grid scheme based on the Euler equations for steady and unsteady flows is described. At the chimera boundaries linear interpolation of flow quantities is used based on triangles or tetrahedrons. Conventional and chimera results are compared for steady and unsteady transonic 2D flows showing good agreement. The comparison of the solutions for a hovering rotor using a conventional 2 block and a chimera grid shows that a first order boundary treatment at inner boundaries is not sufficient. The chimera solution reproduced all flow features but the vortex is captured less sharply.
