Abstract

Given an arbitrary real rational matrix G and a domain Gamma g in the closed complex plane we develop a complete theory of coprime factorizations of G over Gamma g having denominators of least possible McMillan degree. The main tool is a general pole displacement theorem which provides descriptor state space formulas for an invertible factor M that dislocates by multiplication a part of the poles of G.
