One of the current problems in multibody system simulation is the reduction of simulation time. It is shown of how to achieve progress in this field by an appropriate formulation of the dynamical system equations. In particular, the O(N)-formalism is reviewed briefly and it is shown how the formulation must be modiefied to benefit from parallel computer architectures. A discussion of the modelling of flexible bodies for efficient multibody system simulation completes the presentation.
