Kurzfassung

This contribution highlights how open source software and open data strengthen critical infrastructure protection (CIP) by making simulation-based resilience assessments more transparent, reproducible, and interoperable, especially within digital twin frameworks. It illustrates this claim through five applications: simulating pedestrian dynamics for public-space safety; reducing and uncertainty-quantifying airborne contaminant dispersion models using the EZyRB and Queens packages; deploying hIPPYlib to optimally place sensors (including drones) for post-release evacuation planning; detecting structural damage in wind turbine blades via a convolutional neural network trained on open aerodynamic pressure data; and extending a wastewater treatment plant inflow forecasting model to also predict chemical composition.
