Kurzfassung
The goal of this bachelor thesis is the development and implementation of an interface for coupling a 3D CFD simulation with a 0D combustion simulation. The objective was to combine the detailed flow computation of Ansys Fluent with the fast chemical reaction kinetics of Cantera. The solution to this matter is based on a client-server architecture, where a UDF in Fluent acts as a client and a Python-based server performs the 0D combustion calculations. Communication is handled via TCP sockets using a JSON-based protocol that enables efficient batch processing of up to 2500 cells per request. The implementation encompasses both the C-based UDF component and the Python server with multiprocessing support. Special attention was given to system robustness to ensure that errors in the coupling do not compromise the entire 3D CFD simulation. Initial tests demonstrate that the coupling functions are successful. They enable stable communication between the simulation systems. Batch processing significantly reduces communication overhead, and parallelization on the server side optimally utilizes modern multi-core processors. The developed solution provides a solid foundation for the coupled simulations and can serve as a basis for future extensions and optimizations.
