Kurzfassung
ir Quality is stongly influenced by the emissions of air pollutants. Over Europe, air quality has improved in in recent years and it is expected to increase further due to subsequent emission reductions. At the same time, however, climate change affects air quality as well. These effects are for example due to changes in wash-out processes or increases of biogenic VOC emissions. Yet the magnitude and direction of future air quality changes with climate change remain uncertain. To investigate, how air quality changes under different emission projections, both for climate and air quality relevant species, we perform consistent air quality climate simulations for Europe for the years 2030 and 2050. For these simulations, we apply the global-regional chemistry-climate model MECO(n). MECO(n) consists of the global chemistry-climate model EMAC and the regional atmospheric chemistry model COSMO-CLM/MESSy. The EMAC simulations are performed with a global horizontal resolution of around 120 km. Over Europe, we include up to three nested domains: a 22 km domain covering the entire continent, a 7 km domain for Central Europe, and a 2 km domain over Germany. For present day and future projection we use the historical and SSP projections (SSP1-2.6 and SSP2-4.5) consistently downscaled over Europe. We will present first analysis of the simulated changes in air quality, with a particular focus on the role of emissions from the transport sect
