Kurzfassung
BIOMASS is collecting for the first time TomoSAR measurements from space for the reconstruction of 3D radar reflec-tivity at P-band, providing the unique opportunity to characterize 3D forest structure at global scale. In this work, the physical significance of existing structure indices is evaluated in the BIOMASS context. Three critical aspects are con-sidered: the range resolution induced by the 6 MHz chirp bandwidth, the availability of quad-pol data, and the tem-poral decorrelation caused by the repeat-pass implementation. The analysis is supported by results obtained by pro-cessing real BIOMASS data in relevant forest sites with different structure characteristics.
