TanDEM-X DEM Change Maps Time Series: Applications for 4D Earth Surface Monitoring

Abstract

The TanDEM-X mission has entered its 4D phase to continuously monitor topographic changes across the Earth's dynamic regions. Building upon the TanDEM-X 30m DEM Change Maps, we introduce the new TanDEM-X DEM Change Maps Time Series product. By providing discrete, time-tagged layers, these products unlock new capabilities for quantifying change velocities and volumes across diverse application domains. This paper describes the product concept, technical challenges, and emerging applications in mining monitoring, glacier mass balance assessment, and forest dynamics tracking which could support climate monitoring, resource management, and environmental protection.
