Abstract
The Network for the Detection of Mesospheric Change (NDMC) is a global observation network that monitors changes in the mesosphere and lower thermosphere and assesses long-term trends. For the instruments used for this purpose, including the GRIPSspectrometers, a reliable calibration is crucial in order to be able to compare measurements from different station. Against this background, this thesis investigates whether stellar signals can be a suitable and efficient addition to existing calibration methods. The focus is on a regularly occurring stellar signal in the routine measurements of the OH-airglow by GRIPS 15 at the Neumayer-Station III. Due to its daily shift, the signal could be clearly assigned to the star Antares. The signal is characterized in terms of its temporal regularity, spectral shape, duration, and intensity to assess its suitability as a possible calibration method for GRIPS-spectrometers. The results show that stars can be used as a calibration method under suitable conditions, but their applicability is limited by factors such as atmospheric conditions and instrumental properties.
