Abstract

This thesis explores the application of the L-band Digital Aeronautical Communications System (LDACS), particularly its air-to-air component, as a vital infrastructure for future Air Traffic Management (ATM) systems and situational awareness enhancement. LDACS represents an innovative shift from analog VHF voice communications to spectrum-efficient digital data communications. It not only supports robust air-to-ground communications critical for aviation safety but also enables enhanced air-to-air communications, crucial for establishing ad hoc networks among aircraft, thereby enhancing safety, efficiency, and reducing mid-air collision risks.
