Abstract
Impingement cooling is a key technology for turbomachinery thermal management. This presentation investigates a modification of the impingement hole plate using an “ArcConic” U-shaped turbulator to guide cross-flow and reinforce the jet. Based on >100 RANS-SST/TRACE design variations, the best configurations achieve >16% increase in average Nusselt number with an associated pressure-loss increase of about 6%. High-speed PIV results indicate reduced jet deflection and a more homogeneous heat-transfer distribution. Manufacturability aspects for selective laser melting (SLM) of Inconel alloys are discussed.
