Abstract

This paper presents the design of three supersonic aircraft configurations-one commercial airliner, one low-boom, and one normal-boom Supersonic Business Jet (SSBJ)-developed as part of the STORMIE (Supersonic Transport Open Research Models and Impact on Environment) project. The commercial airliner design is inspired by the Boom Overture concept and has been further optimized with respect to configuration, lift-to-drag ratio (L/D), stability, and trim capability. These designs aim to address the premium market's demand for faster, sustainable supersonic air travel. Building on Top-Level Aircraft Requirements (TLARs) and leveraging insights from NASA’s STCA, preliminary concepts have been developed with an emphasis on noise reduction and aerodynamic efficiency. Future iterations within STORMIE will refine these configurations, contributing to the advancement of environmentally sustainable supersonic aviation.
