Abstract

The presentation covers major achievements of EB-PVD TBC development. This includes topics such as Thermal conductivity, Sufficient lifetime until spallation, Predictable degradation behavior in service, and Additionally: must survive erosion, CMAS, FOD, combustion gases and some others. Process parameters are crucial for microstructure, density and TBC adhesion. It determines / influences thermal conductivity, CMAS-behavior, mechanical properties, TGO formation, life time, erosion resistance and several more things. This opens popportunities in the lab for improvement of TBCs, but sometimes a nightmare in production (especially the control of sample or part temperature).
