Abstract

Bike sharing systems (BSSs) can contribute to sustainable mobility. For the design of BSSs, detailed knowledge is still needed about decision-making processes regarding the use of BSSs. This research uses a mixed-methods approach. Using a data set of 202 respondents, a structural equation model (SEM) was calculated with the predictors Performance Expectancy, Effort Expectancy, Facilitating Conditions, Social Influence and Habit. The SEM explained 52% of the variance in Behavioral Intention (BI). Performance Expectancy and Habit emerged as significant predictors. Obtained findings were supplemented by guided interviews to gain further insight. Based on a population that habitually uses its own bicycles, it is suggested to promote BSSs as part of multim
