Abstract

The DLR internal research project H2EAT (Comparison of highly integrated fuel cell-based electrified propulsion system topologies for regional aircraft) is presented. The motivation for the project and for developing solid oxide fuel cell-powered aircraft propulsion systems and according key technologies is explained. A comprehensive overview of the related state of research is given. The research objectives and the structure of the project, as well as preliminary results after half of the 3-year project duration are introduced. These results highlight challenges concerning weight, design space, durability and operability.
