Abstract

This study investigated the potential of virtual reality (VR) simulations of natural environments to help Air Traffic Service (ATS) officers better restore from stress and fatigue during their breaks with positive effect on their task performance. While some ATS officers found VR to be an effective relaxation tool, others experienced little benefit compared to traditional break activities. Physical comfort and personal preference strongly influenced the effectiveness of VR. Overall, while most ATS officers were open to VR as an additional break option, the findings suggest that VR is best utilized as a complementary relaxation tool alongside traditional methods, considering individual needs and preferences
