Kurzfassung
One of the key results of a novel multi-criteria traffic control (MTC) is that the safety of cyclists can be significantly increased without drastically reducing the efficiency of motorised traffic. This paper introduces MTC, which is a new rule-based control method that focuses on the optimisation criteria traffic safety, traffic efficiency and the reduction of emissions in a scalable and switchable manner. It is based on the communication of relevant real-time information of road users’ positions and speeds via V2X in order to analyse and influence road users. MTC thus expands the possibilities for influencing traffic compared to the possibilities already utilised by traffic control today. Its impact on traffic is analysed with the microscopic traffic simulation SUMO with regard to the various optimisation goals focusing on the integration of cyclists into traffic control.
