Abstract
Airbus Defence and Space MDO suite, Lagrange is coupled to DLR’s CFD code, TAU within the FlowSimulator framework to accurately predict the aircraft performance. The sensitivities of the cruise flight performance with respect to shape and structure sizing are calculated with the coupled aero-structure adjoint and used in gradient-based optimization. The usage of the full sensitivities including the influence of shape and sizing on the aerodynamic performance through modification of the structure response is novel at this fidelity. This approach is demonstrated on selected optimization scenarios.
