Abstract
ESA’s roadmap for Terrae Novae 2030+ includes two payload options for the European Large Logistics Lander EL3: a) missions combining cargo delivery of logistics in support of human expeditions to the Moon, one or more scientific experiments, and technology demonstrations, and b) a self-standing European science mission. A set of major mission themes have emerged from the 2020 ESA Call for Ideas, "Exploring the Moon with a large European lander", with a polar ice prospecting mission identified and currently being studied as a candidate EL3 science mission. Potential mission scenarios and concepts are under study, supported by the “Polar Explorer” Topical Team. These are open for consolidation by the community before possibly being in-vestigated further for feasibility by ESA.
