Abstract
Double layer 7YSZ + GZO EB-PVD thermal barrier coatings were investigated and improved in this presentation. TBCs are a system, alloy + BC + TGO + top coat. Some EB-PVD conditions are critical for adhesion of double layers due to accumulation of porosity. Slow transition 7YSZ to GZO by jumping beam does not create a graded zone CMAS infiltration and reactions (monoclinic content and stresses) can be captured by Raman 3D imaging.
