Abstract

This paper presents a robust vibration controller design method in frequency domain. The design method is realized by minimizing an H-2 performance criterion with constrains of H-2, Hinfinity norms and the controller poles, and all information required can be measured from experiments. Frequency discretization is employed to make the design available in an interest frequency range. The design method is applied to design robust vibration controllers for a sting vibration control of a helicopter test-bed, a mass-adjustable torsion beam, and a mass-adjustable cascaded beam, respectively. Simulations are conducted for the sting vibration control of the helicopter test-bed. Experiments are performed on two beams. Satisfactory vibration reduction and robustness are demonstrated for the sting increasing its first two natural frequencies of 100%, or decreasing 30%, for the torsion beam changing its natural frequency of 10%, and for the cascaded beam changing its first two natural frequencies of 20%.
