From crossroad to town square: Experiences from a real-world experiment in Berlin

Abstract

The lecture presented how an intersection in Berlin Charlottenburg was transformed into a city square for five weeks as part of a real-world experiment. The aim of the redesign of the street space is to investigate how the newly created space is used and accepted and what the effects are on everyday mobility. The results of the household survey show that the topic of redistributing public space is discussed emotionally and that about the same number of respondents are in favor of or against such a redesign.
