Abstract

In the past, the process chain for the in-situ Automated Fiber Placement has been successfully demonstrated on the level of panels and coupons. An important aspect of the project is the scaling of the process chain to more complex and especially larger designs. Therefore, a full-scale half-shell segment with single-aisle dimensions and about 1 m in depth was designed and manufactured in order to demonstrate the progression of the processes, to validate current approaches and to identify risks regarding the final scale-up to the 8 m Demonstrator half-shell. In addition, inline QA inspection methods were applied to the entire layup. The placed skin segment will be used for the validation of welding technologies as well.
