Abstract

A state-of-the-art coupled simulation including the disciplines of aerodynamics, structural dynamics and flight mechanics has been implemented for an elastic delta wing with fixed controls. The central challenge is the time-accurate aeroelastic coupling of the flexible aircraft body with the non-linear aerodynamic solver in guided or free-to-roll manoeuvres. The application is characterized by the use of the multibody system SIMPACK to account for the elastic structure as well as the flight mechanics and its loose coupling to the aerodynamic solver TAU. The spatial coupling of the structural and the fluid mesh is established by the MpCCI coupling library.
