Abstract

Flutter analysis for turbomachinery requires the determination of the unsteady flow due to blade motion. One method of achieving this is to transform the unsteady flow equations to the frequency domain. The resulting so-called time-linearised Navier-Stokes equations require significantly less computational effort than time domain methods (one or two orders of magnitude). Here, an efficient and robust method for solving the time-linearised Navier-Stokes equations using GMRES with preconditioning is presented. The Spalart & Allmaras turbulence model was included in the flow equations. The accuracy of the method is validated by examining standard test cases.
