Abstract

The article presents the results obtained within a study on the effective validation of aeronautical applications. A strategy is indicated to validate the FE model of a 295-seat civil four-engine aircraft using a computational model updating (CMU) method. After a short theoretical review of the inverse sensitivity approach, a strategy is presented that allows for fast updating of the mathematical model. Selection of parameters is described in detail with respect to their physical relevance and the CMU results using experimental data from ground vibration testing (GVT) are presented. The effectiveness of the utilized validation concept is emphasized by comparing eigenfrequencies and mode shapes that were not used in the updating process (so-called passive eigenfrequencies/mode shapes). In order to underline the prediction capability of the updated model, measured and analyticl frequency response functions (FRFs) are compared as well.
