Abstract

Since the multibody systems (MBS) simulation of vehicles has become a standard simulation tool in automotive industry the essential effort has been paid in the recent years to decrease the computing time needs for the numerical integration. Especially in case of Hardware-in-the-Loop tests the computing time is crucial. Various MBS-formalisms and simulation techniques have been suggested to reduce the computing time in dynamic simulation. The present paper is focused on the simplification of a complex model of the vehicle suspension systems by means of a so called virtual axle. The implementation of the virtual axle in the multibody simulation package SIMPACK is presented as well.
