Kurzfassung

This report describes development of a computational method for the generation of three-dimensional multi-block structured CFD grids. The goal of the research is the generation of finite-difference computational grids based on (a) uni-directional parametric spline method for the generation of a wireframe model and a surface grid, (b) transfinite interpolation method for the generation of an algebraic volume grid, and (c) solving a system of elliptic partial differential equations for smoothing of the volume grid. Particular attention was paid to the creation of grids around complex transport aircraft configurations. The current research is partly based on a three-dimensional single-block elliptic grid generation method which was, over the years, developed at the DLR Institute of Aeroelasticity in Goettingen, Germany. The work was funded by the DLR-EADS cooperation project DYNALOAD. An essential objective of the work was to develop a grid generation tool which would be easy to use for non-CFD experts. For this reason one of the constraints was to generate grids around complex configurations with as simple multi-block topologies as possible. At the beginning, coarse multi-block grids with relatively simple topologies and around simplified configurations were generated. After basic algebraic algorithms were coded and existing elliptic algorithms modified and included in the grid generation system, the technique was used for generation of smoother and more complex grids around realistic transport aircraft configurations.
