Abstract

Titanium alloys represent a very important class of alloys used widely in the aerospace sector due to their low density and excellent material properties. These alloys represent a strong focus at the Institute of Materials Research of the German Aerospace Center. The talk highlights particular aspects of additive manufacturing of Ti-6Al-4V by Laser Powder Bed Fusion from development of process windows, adjusting the materials properties and microstructures by systematic exploitation of phase transformations using the intrinsic laser energy or heat treatments, the development build strategies for a specific part, and the transfer of material-process-relationships from the coupon to the component level.
