Abstract

The paper deals with the description of the results and the development of semi-active road-friendly truck prototype within the EU Copernicus Project SADTS (Semi-active Damping of Trauck Suspension and its influence on Drivers and Road Loads). The main objective of the project was to investigate the potentials of semi-active damping of truck suspensions in order to decrease the road damage and preserve the comfort criteria for a broad range of road unevenness. The project results have proved that the semi-active truck suspensions can improve road-friendliness, i.e. to reduce the road-tyre force by about 10-20 % without negative effects on ride comfort. This means that the road damage could be reduced or the useful payload could be increased without negative effects on road damage.
