Modal Survey Test of the ARIANE-5 Long Payload Fairing

Degener, M. (1998) Modal Survey Test of the ARIANE-5 Long Payload Fairing. DLR-Interner Bericht. 232 - 98 C 06.

Abstract

A modal survey test was performed by the DLR Institute of Aeroelasticity on the Tn-half shell of the ARIANE-5 long payload fairing developed by Oerlikon-Contraves. The normal mode characterstics in the frequency range up to 20 Hz were measured and checked for their linearity behaviour. This report gives a description of the test performance and summarizes the test results including eigenfrequencies, mode shapes, generalized masses, and modal damping values. The experimental results are correlated with the respective data of the Finite Element Calculation.
