Abstract

A modal survey test was performed on the Structural and Thermal Model (STM) of the large European x-ray Multi-Mirror satellite XMM. The main objective of the test was to provide a reliable data base for updating of the analytical mathematical model of the spacecraft and for improvement of the structural dynamic modelling. A dedicated boosted Modal Survey test was performed to qualify the spacecraft for the maximum launcher induced bending moments. The test were performed by DLR in the Large European Acoustic facility at ESTEC. The measurements included the normal modes and the correlated modal parameters in the frequency range up to 100 Hz. The test results are correlated with the respective analytical predictions. The present report describes the text performance and summarizes the test results.
