Kurzfassung
Future urban intersections will have several new functionalities to make traffic safer, more efficient and more environmentally friendly. Communication between vehicles and infrastructure, intelligent signal control approaches and greater consideration of vulnerable road users (VRUs) will therefore play an import role. Within this paper the conception and the implementation of such an intelligent cooperative intersection, located in the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, directly neighboring the ITS World Congress venue, are presented. This intersection features new actuated traffic light control approaches which can make use of vehicle-to-infrastructure communication (V2X) and artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Further, innovative detection equipment is applied to capture road users, especially VRUs, to provide their individual trajectories as input for the signal control and for a broadcast via V2X to prevent conflicting and dangerous situations, e.g. as support for future automated driving. Findings from experimental trails and results from on-site operation are presented and discussed.
